Flying at night over Riyadh and watching the door gunner nodding off behind his gun mount. We were taking sporadic small arms fire and this guy was falling asleep. A full bird colonel looked at me asked what I was going to do about it. I screamed in the guys ear to get his shit together as what I assume was an RPG blew past his weapon port and thumped off the side of the Chinook. Poor guy had been up for 3 days and didn’t even know where he was. I manned his post for the remainder of the flight and had to change my underwear when we made it to the FOB. I hope I never have to do that again. 1/10 wouldn’t recommend it.

Holy cow! What an awful flight that must have been. Still, I have empathy for that gunner. He was horribly exhausted and should’ve been excused from manning the gun.
